About GALE(WA)
Gay and Lesbian Equality (WA) is Western Australia's peak lobby group for issues of diverse sexuality and gender. While GALE(WA) does not claim to represent trans* or intersex members of the community, GALE(WA) advocates for their rights, alongside those of gay, lesbian, bisexual and other sexually diverse members of our community.

GALE(WA)'s official slogan is Nothing Less Than Full Equality - which is testament to our commitment to always be present, advocating for the rights of people of diverse sexuality and gender, until they are truly equal in our society.

What has GALE(WA) achieved?
Our organisation has successfully lobbied and worked with WA ministers and policy makers to implement Gay and Lesbian Law reform in our state. As a result, WA gay and lesbian citizens have all the individual rights a State can provide, including age of consent laws equal to those of heterosexuals, the  decriminalisation of homosexuality, the right to adopt, and the ability to have our defacto relationships recognised.

What is GALE(WA) doing now?
Same-sex attracted and gender diverse citizens are still not equal in Australian society. In Australia, gay, lesbian and gender-alternative relationships are still not recognised. In 2004, the Howard Government passed law to officially ban same-sex marriage in Australia.

This year GALE(WA) is working with WA ministers to explore relationship recognition schemes for Western Australia, and working with WA citizens to lobby for equal marriage laws across Australia.

How can I get involved?
GALE(WA) is always looking for interested citizens to participate as volunteers or committee members, who will contribute their attention, time or skills to the campaign for equality.

To find out more about how to get involved, email GALE via the contact details posted on the Contact page of our website.
